FMU State University is a provincial medical institution located in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province that integrates teaching, research, treatment, prevention, and social services. Its predecessor was Fujian Provincial Medical College, founded back in 1937. Since 2003, the institution has been re-certified by the Fujian Provincial People’s Government as a key top-tier Fujian University.
Fujian University FMU was founded in 1937. After 78 years of development, it has created a perfect system for the preparation of highly qualified bachelors, masters and doctoral students. The undergraduate program specializes in attracting students not only from all over their country, but also recruiting foreign teachers from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan and foreign students from all over the world. In addition, the university has formed a multidisciplinary multi-level system of medical education for adults.

University composition and infrastructure
FMU has two campuses, Shangji and Taijiang, which cover more than 873,000 m² and the total area of educational buildings is more than 400,000 m². There are 20 colleges, 4 directly related hospitals, 12 unrelated affiliated hospitals and clinical medical schools, 22 general clinical hospitals and 58 vocational training bases. In the teaching practice there is an experimental training center for virtual dental simulation. There is also a major research platform for innovative antibody drug technologies and the latest innovative platform for immunotherapy technology. The Ministry of Education has set up a key laboratory for the detailed study of gastrointestinal cancers.
Full composition of the institution:
- 9 330 teachers of the highest category, of which more than 40% have doctoral degrees, 16 outstanding specialists;
- 24,500 students (12,900 full-time students), of which more than 10% are foreigners.
The University has established cooperation in the field of scientific research and training of specialists with medical research institutes from the USA, Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Australia, Canada. Now students can practice in any of the countries they like.
Admission and tuition fees
Tuition fees at FMU:
- registration mandatory fee – 500 yuan;
- Undergraduate – from 26,000 to 30,000 yuan;
- Master’s degree – from 30,000 to 38,000 yuan;
- Doctoral studies – from 35,000 to 45,000 yuan.
Applicants who wish to study in Chinese must provide an HSK certificate with a level of 3-6 points, depending on the chosen direction. You can submit a package of documents online to the institution’s e-mail starting from June.
Grants
FMU provides all foreign students with legal grants that entitle them to preferential tuition. Successful students can apply for an Enhanced Presidential Scholarship.

Dormitory
All nonresident students are provided with student accommodation. The cost of living on campus is approximately 1000 or 1250 per month depending on the room. Accommodation must be booked in advance.
