(the official full name is Duke University, abbreviated DU) is America’s leading research center. The institution is located in North Carolina (city of Durham) in a picturesque area surrounded by Duke Forest. Training takes place only in English, therefore, upon admission, you must provide IELTS Certificates (not less than 7.0 points) and TOEFL (not less than 100 points).

Duke University was founded in 1838 and bore the old name Trinity College, then the Business Institute. Then only male citizens could study here. Later in 1924, the institution was renamed Duke University in honor of Washington Duke, a renowned producer of modern tobacco and electricity. Since 1926, women have also been able to study there.

University ranking and its advantages

Over the past few years, DU has climbed the global ladder significantly, indicating a high level of education. In the international ranking, DU was ranked 23rd and 17th in the United States. DU takes an active part in the student exchange program, so students can practice not only in the USA, but also in Canada, Europe, the UAE and Asia.

DU University occupies a vast area of ​​3,600 hectares, on which there are more than 200 buildings for various purposes, namely:

DU admission and tuition fees

Despite the fact that the average subject score is not taken into account for admission, it is extremely difficult to enter the DU. Only 13% of all applicants are recommended for admission. A tough selection takes place here, as a result of which only the best students from different countries, namely from more than 90 countries of the world, pass.

For admission to DU, it is necessary to pass the standard American testing SAT (Reasoning Test), which assesses the general preparation of the student for further study at the university. The minimum passing score in DU is 680. It should be noted that the test is paid and is 75 US dollars for foreign citizens. After passing the test, you need to fill out an approved application and an additional form, where it is necessary to answer a number of questions concerning not only the incoming applicant, but also his relatives.

Tuition fees per year are:

  • Bachelor’s degree from 42,000 to 44,100 USD;
  • Master’s degree from 38 600 to 55 300 USD.

Upon admission, you must also provide the admissions committee with an official confirmation of the basic level of knowledge of the English language, namely: Bachelor’s and Master’s programs – IELTS from 7.0+, TOEFL from 100+.

Grants

DU only provides grants to the most successful students, but since the best students study here, more than 40% of students receive financial assistance of various levels. Also DU students are eligible for a scholarship.
