Location: Lanzhou, China

(official full name – Lanzhou University, in Chinese – 蘭州 大學, abbreviated – LZU) is the largest educational institution of the PRC of the highest degree. The institution is fully subordinate to the Ministry of Education of China, so students are awarded legislative grants and scholarships. The university is formed according to a complex structure and has 6 campuses and 3 independent hospitals on its territory.

LZU University was formed in 1909 as a small educational institution that did not provide students with higher education. Throughout its existence, the institution has expanded and transformed many times. Thanks to multiple renovations and re-certifications, LZU has become the largest educational institution in Asia.

University ranking and its advantages

LZU, a multidisciplinary university, consistently ranks in the 5% of the best institutions in the world ranking. In the PRC, the university is traditionally included in the top 20 universities. According to the latest research data, LZU is ranked 6th in China. The best areas in the university are “Mathematics”, “Chemistry”, “Natural Sciences”.

University Composition and Infrastructure

The territory of the LZU University is divided into 6 parts, which are connected by transport links, paths and bridges. The campus has its own clinic, where all students of the institution are served, as well as practical classes.

The full composition of the LZU University:

  • more than 4,000 teachers, of which 800 are associate professors and 8 academicians of sciences;
  • about 28,000 students, of which 18,000 for Bachelor’s degrees and 10,000 for Master’s degrees.

LZU trains not only students who have completed the school curriculum, but also specialized specialists in innovative training technologies.

Admission and tuition fees

Admission to an LZU institution is based on overall performance from the previous place of study. The academic year traditionally has two semesters, followed by exams. Since LZU is fully publicly supported, successful students can count on legislative grants.

Annual tuition fees at LZU:

  • Undergraduate studies averaged 16,000 yuan;
  • Master’s degrees averaged 22,000 yuan;
  • Doctoral studies averaged 33,000 yuan;
  • registration fee is 600 yuan.

Education at LZU University is conducted in Chinese, and only some specialties are available in English. Therefore, the institution conducts qualified one-year and two-year courses in the preparation of the Chinese language and the study of culture.

Grants

As a government agency, LZU provides scholarships for overseas students with benefits. Grants enable the student to receive a discount of 100%, 50% or 20% of the total tuition fee.

LZU University includes 30 institutes that provide specialized training in 86 specialties of a diverse orientation. Also, the institution annually forms research groups to improve the qualifications of candidates of science.

Dormitory

LZU provides nonresident students with dormitory accommodation. At the same time, accommodation in a student hostel for the first academic year of the Bachelor’s degree is compulsory. In the second year of study, students can live in a rented apartment by providing confirmation to the university. Foreign students are provided with double rooms with a set of standard furniture. The cost of living is 20-30 RMB per day. Also, students have the opportunity to eat in the student canteen, which is located in close proximity to the hostel. The cost of dining at the canteen is around RMB 600 per month. In total, monthly expenses in addition to living costs are up to 1,000 RMB.
