China Pharmaceutical University (CPU), located in China, the city of Nanjing, famous for its history and unique culture. Like other leading universities in China, CPU takes part in the state project “211”. Founded in 1936 as a college, China University of Pharmacy is today the first government institution of higher pharmaceutical education in China and is 100% leader in the field of pharmacology.
University ranking and benefits
According to the statistics of the Ministry of Education of China for 2018, the pharmaceutical discipline CPU ranks 1st, and the traditional Chinese pharmaceutical discipline ranks 3rd among all Chinese universities. According to the US News Ranking 2018, China University of Pharmacy ranked 1st in Pharmacy in the National Ranking, 22nd in Pharmacy and Pharmacology in the World Ranking.
CPU adheres to the concept of an academic, teacher and student centered, win-win concept, implements an educational model of integrating knowledge, skills and quality, emphasizes the development of students’ creative thinking, and strives to create future pharmaceutical elites. China University of Pharmacy is the only one to have won the First National Teaching Achievement Award three times in a row. In 2014, CPU nominated three projects for the National Teaching Achievement Award, which were highly acclaimed. Graduate employment rates have always ranked first among universities and community colleges in Jiangsu province.
The university fosters innovation in scientific research and focuses on the development of new drugs. 2 new drugs have passed national certification, 6 new drugs have been approved for clinical trials, 410 patents have been obtained and 3919 scientifically indexed articles have been published. During 2011-2015, the university implemented 26 major projects for innovative new drug projects in the country and was endowed with 178 million yuan in funding, ranking No. 1 among all universities nationwide.
University composition and infrastructure
CPU is located in the ancient capital of Nanjing and includes two campuses, including the Xuanwumen campus, located in the center of Nanjing, and the Jiangning campus, on the southeastern outskirts of Nanjing.
The Chinese University of Pharmacy has established an international exchange of experience and students with universities in different regions of the world, including with leading universities in Japan, USA, UK, Australia, Europe.
At the moment, more than 15,000 students are studying here, of which 4 hundred are students from different countries of the world. Out of 530 teachers, 2 are academicians (members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering), academic titles are more than 40%.
The CPU consists of 18 key laboratories, including the state key laboratory for natural medicines and key laboratories at the provincial or ministerial levels, engineering centers, innovation platforms. The university has established academic cooperation with foreign universities and institutes in more than 40 countries and regions.
Admission and tuition fees
Duration of study on long-term programs – bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral studies – at each stage for 3 years. Tuition fees range from 25,000 to 36,000 yuan per year.
Several types of programs are available, ranging from 20 days to 3 months, aimed at learning the Chinese language, culture, traditional medicine, martial arts and Chinese culture. The cost of these courses is within 800 yuan.
Also, for foreign students, there is an opportunity to receive one of the scholarships with full or partial coverage of the costs of tuition, accommodation, etc. named after the university.
Requirements for obtaining a grant are good academic performance and knowledge of the conversational level of Chinese or English, with supporting documents. Applicants cannot be recipients of other scholarships offered by the Chinese government, local governments or other organizations at the same time.
Studying programs
For international students, CPU offers 22 undergraduate programs, 33 master’s programs, 26 doctoral programs, 23 post-doctoral programs in Chinese. In addition, English-language pharmacy programs are available.
CPU consists of six schools (School of Pharmacy, School of Traditional Chinese Pharmacy, School of Life Science and Technology, School of International Pharmaceutical Business, School of Continuing Education and School of Higher Professional Education), four independent departments (Department of Basic Sciences, Department of Foreign Languages, Department of Social Sciences and the department of physical education)
Dormitory
International students have the option of staying at the China Pharmaceutical University dormitory. Each room is equipped with internet access, air conditioning, necessary furniture. Students can use a private bathroom, as well as a shared kitchen and washing machine. Two types of accommodation are available for accommodation – a single room costing RMB 13200 per year, a double room – RMB 7800 per year.
