Located in the capital of China, Beijing, Capital Medical University, also known as CMU, has a long-standing reputation as one of the best medical universities in the country. Established in 1960 as Beijing Second Medical College, it quickly gained the authoritative status of a leading educational institution, although it was only renamed Metropolitan Medical University in 1994. In 2001, the School of Chinese Medicine of Peking Union University, Beijing Medical College and CMU were merged into one school. Today KMU consists of six campuses located throughout the capital, including an International Campus to accommodate the growing number of international students wishing to study at KMU.

CMU supports and promotes international communications and cooperation, and also signs agreements on joint education, inviting scientists and conducting research with foreign universities and organizations from more than 30 countries and regions, including the USA, Canada, Australia, Great Britain, Sweden, Norway, Hong Kong. CCMU has achieved worldwide recognition in many fields such as maxillofacial surgery, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, digestive medicine, as well as pediatric hematology, neurobiology, cytobiology, immunology, medical iconography, neurology, neurosurgery, cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, kidney transplantation, and respiratory diseases.

University composition and infrastructure
Today KMU consists of six campuses located throughout the capital, including an International Campus to accommodate the growing number of international students wishing to study at KMU.
CCMU consists of 10 schools, 14 branches of hospitals and 1 educational institution. The university and related hospitals are staffed by about 20,000 people. Among the staff there are 6 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences or the Chinese Academy of Engineering, more than 1000 professors and more than 2000 associate professors. More than 9000 students study at the university. CMU provides a wide range of educational programs for doctoral students, masters, bachelors and graduates.
Several thousand clinical residents and fellows study here every year. In addition, the faculty also provides continuing medical education for physicians and other health care professionals through workshops, study tours, and study guides on and off campus. The university has also formed a group of national and municipal key laboratories and research centers.
Admission and tuition fees
Total duration of study: 4-5 years, admission requirements – high school graduates. The enrollment of the applicant is carried out according to the results of the entrance exams. The languages of instruction are Chinese and English. The fee per year is from 8,000 to 40,000 yuan, depending on the direction of study and the level of education.
In order to promote mutual understanding, cooperation and exchange in politics, economics, culture, education and trade between China and other countries, the Chinese government has established a number of scholarship programs with full and partial coverage of the costs of training and research. The China Government Scholarship supports international students, teachers and scholars to pursue degrees at all levels (bachelor’s, master’s and PhD’s). Also, a number of scholarship programs include free accommodation and monthly payments up to 2,000 yuan.

Dormitory
Metropolitan Medical University provides a hotel-type hostel on campus for international students. Life on campus is very comfortable and safe. The Housing is close to restaurants, cafes, convenience stores, bookstores and a gym. There are several types of rooms to choose from: single, double, triple, studio rooms. The cost of living per day is from 20 to 40 yuan per night per person. Each room is equipped with TV, telephone, desktop computer, refrigerator and central air conditioning.
